Q. We would like to have a very private Listserv, due to the sensitive nature of the topic we are discussing. Can we do this?
A. If you choose Edit Settings on any listserv of which you are a moderator, you can choose the Private Discussion option:
Private : This list is of a very personal nature.
Private Discussions have the following options (which moderators can further customize by clicking customize these options in the Discussion settings menu.):
- Private Discussion Details: - Invite Only
- Only Participants Can View Participant List
- Only Participants Can View Email, Library, Wiki Notepad
- Only Participants Can Send Email (Not Moderated), Add to Library, Edit Wiki Notepad
Please think carefully before setting up this level of privacy. While we realize there are some very sensitive topics, we nonetheless encourage members to be open with each other. What if another member would really fit in or needed your support? Consider how s/he would find you if you hid your Listserv completely? It is good to know what Listservs exist. Don't forget that there are other options, such as Part Open / Part Private, and that all settings can be customized as to who can view various aspects of the Listserv (see diagram below, which shows the options available when you click the Customize settings link on any Listserv settings page.
